dc.description | The first volume of The Handbook of the Sociology of Emotions (Stets and Turner 2006) was assembled to celebrate how far the discipline had come by the end of the 20th century in its understanding of emotional processes. In that volume, many of the key figures who had made the sociology of emotions one of the leading edges of microsociology gave a first-hand account of their work. Though that volume was large, we still could not include the full range of thinking by sociologists on emotions. Coupled with the fact that so much new knowledge has been generated in less than a decade since the publication of The Handbook, it became increasingly clear that a second volume was needed. Thus, in the pages that follow, we allow some new voices to be heard, but we have also provided a forum for the key figures to demonstrate how their theory and research has progressed since the first volume. | - |
