Title: Social Capital, Resilience and Adaptation on Small Islands
Authors: Petzold, Jan
Keywords: Social Capital
Issue Date: 2017
Publisher: Springer
Description: In this book, I present the results of a case study on the Isles of Scilly, UK, which are among the most vulnerable islands in Europe. As is the case with the Isles of Scilly, many small island communities face environmental stressors, both historically and at present, which are expected to increase with further climate change. A mixed-methods qualitative and quantitative approach has been applied to analyse the various roles of social capital in this small archipelago’s adaptation to climate change impacts, within its economically strong, yet seemingly peripheral and isolated context.
