dc.description | To take the latter first, it is not a handbook of gerontology (i.e. the theoretical study of aging in its psychological, biological and social aspects), although many of the chapters draw on recent empirical research into old age and aging. Neither is it a manual on ‘good living’ in old age, and none of the chapters advises on such matters as aging gracefully, fulfilling oneself in one’s ‘senior years’ or reaching one’s centenary. How useful such self-help manuals are is debatable and debated. | en_US |
