Th e main purpose of the present book is to explore the relationship between scientifi c knowledge and possible metaphysical interpretations in the light of our Darwinian heritage. Assuming a naturalistic stance from the outset, I ask what it has to teach us about the inference from scientifi c observation to metaphysics (the same inference with which Kant was concerned from his transcendental stance). Like Kant I want to set limits to this inference. So with “naturalist” replacing “transcendentalist,” Kant and I are associates.en_US
