dc.description | The primary focus of this study lies in the ambitious task of inspiring a critical attitude to war commemoration as a process which can potentially evoke nationalistic sentiments, normalise warfare and militarise societies at the cultural level. For this reason, the book draws attention to the political aspects of war commemoration by prioritising the politics of remembrance over its function to console and support. This approach does not deny the value of compassion or respect to the fallen, but it arises out of the belief that only by distancing ourselves from these deeply ingrained emotions can we attempt to understand the politics of war commemoration in modern societies. | en_US |
