Title: Children’s Rights in Africa
Authors: Julia, Sloth-Nielsen
Keywords: Children--Legal status, laws, etc.--Africa
Issue Date: 2008
Publisher: Ashgate
Description: This volume was born from the experience of more than a decade of teaching a LLM module on ‘Children’s rights and the law in African context’. This programme has since inception enabled access to groups of students from throughout Africa, who have participated annually as part of the LLM (Human Rights and Democracy in Africa) programme established by the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria. Many have continued to further law studies, amongst them some who have pursued doctoral studies in the children’s rights sphere. This book is dedicated first to the many past students in the course whose insights, practical and theoretical knowledge of African human rights issues, and ability to deepen current discourses have enriched both teaching and classroom debates. They form, in the main, the contributors to this volume.
