Title: | Historical Dictionary of Nigeria |
Authors: | Falola, Toyin Jon Woronoff |
Keywords: | Nigeria |
Issue Date: | 2009 |
Publisher: | Library of Congress Cataloging |
Description: | The dictionary includes standard transliteration of terms and names, without diacriticals. Personal names, particularly Muslim ones, have been placed in the dictionary as they are commonly used. Most Muslim, Hausa, and Fulani names do not conform to the Western structure of given/middle/family. That said, however, some individuals have used their names in the Western style. “Usman dan Fodio,” for example, appears as it is written while General Alhaji Abdulsalami Abubakar appears as “Abubakar, General Alhaji Abdulsalami.” |
