The 2002 Revision is the eighteenth round of global demographic estimates and projections undertaken by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs Population Division. Between 1951 and 2000, following an early attempt in the 1940s, 17 revisions of population estimates and projections were published: in 1951, 1954, 1957, 1963, 1968, 1973,1978,1980,1982,1984,1988,1990,1992,1995,1998 and 2000.3 This analytical report employs a different format than previous reports.
