dc.descriptionThe purpose of this book is to provide a guide or road map for public health students aspiring to manage reproductive health programs or clinically trained managers needing a broader public health perspective. After reading this book the student or manager should have a grasp of the core knowledge, tools and skills needed to oversee a reproductive health program. I am suggesting that there are six core competencies that will be needed by the manager—reproductive risk analysis, behavior change, community empowerment, institutional capacity building, health technologies, and policy advocacy. Within the definition of key health technologies I include contraception, maternal health care, and management of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Principles and applications in each of these domains are explored. As often as possible, examples are given of effective programming, many of which are drawn from CARE, which helped support the writing of this book.-
