dc.description | Poverty rates have declined over the years but continued persistence of high rates, especially for some regions, and social groups are indicative of the intractability or stubbornness of poverty in such cases and the lack of responsiveness to overall economic growth and development. Sustainable development goal 1 or SDG1 requires that we end poverty in all its forms everywhere. This cannot be achieved unless policies and programmes for poverty alleviation address chronic poverty and the dynamics of poverty. These are the issues that are analysed in this book titled Poverty, Chronic Poverty and Poverty Dynamics, which is the last of more than 70 publications brought out by the Chronic Poverty Research Centre, India, headquartered at IIPA, New Delhi, over more than a decade. Apart from the India Chronic Poverty Report 2011, which has also been translated into Hindi and Odia, 51 peer-reviewed working papers have been published in the CPRC-IIPA working paper series. Some of the earlier working papers have subsequently been revised and converted into articles in journals such as World Development, Journal of Human Development, Margin, Economic and Political Weekly, Yojana and Down to Earth and books such as Chronic Poverty in India (2003) published by IIPA and Chronic Poverty and Development Policy in India (2006) published by Sage. This book, Poverty, Chronic Poverty and Poverty Dynamics: Policy Imperatives, builds on the last lot of working papers published in this series. Additionally, a book titled Understanding Poverty Dynamics and Eradicating Chronic Poverty (2014) documented the discussions during a very successful two-day international seminar organised at IIPA as part of this work. | - |
