The establishment in 1996 of the President’s Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection (PCCIP), its 1997 report Critical Foundations: Protecting America’s Infrastructures, and the issuance in 1998 of Presidential Decision Directive 63 and the establishment of the Critical Infrastructure Assurance Office (CIAO) promoted awareness of critical infrastructure issues.
