Description: | This book began during my time as a PhD student at Stanford University and was supported there through grants and fellowships from Stanford’s Asia-Pacific Research Center and Department of Political Science. During my first quarter at Stanford, Alberto Diaz-Cayeros helped open my eyes to the utility of following the money in politics. Jean Oi, my dissertation chair, gave me helpful comments on innumerable drafts, pushed me toward this doable and exciting project and away from others that had neither characteristic, and introduced me to field work in China. |
