Description: The aim of this book is to examine the conjunction of ‘race’, gender and sexuality in British films. The themes and preoccupations of black and white film-makers in Britain suggest the existence of several histories of interracial social and sexual relations and constitute an invaluable resource indicative of a variety of experiences and interpretations of experiences. However, the films under discussion in this book are not taken to be transparently readable historical documents ‘reflecting’ past and contemporary racial issues: rather, they are seen as a means through which issues specifically related to notions of racial difference, gender and sexuality are mediated and articulated.
