Title: Corporate and Institutional Transparency for Economic Growth in Europe
Authors: Oxelheim, Lars
LARS OXELHEIM
Keywords: Corporate and Institutional
Issue Date: 2006
Publisher: Elsevier
Description: ‘Transparency’ has become a catchword in the European growth debate. However, transparency as a concept is multidimensional as well as multifunctional. In the debate, the concept is used without much clarity about what dimension is used and what function it is supposed to play. Hence, the debate as such could be said to lack in transparency. Moreover, the long and winding road that supposedly binds together improved transparency in Europe and increased economic growth in the region has never been mapped out in a coherent way. The reason for this is simply the fact that the causal chain from transparency to growth needs to be discussed in a comprehensive, interdisciplinary way, incorporating different research areas and traditions — from accounting to economics and political science.
