| Description: | This book was written during 2000–2001 by virtue of a sabbatical, extended to a full year by a Research Professorship. I am grateful to Central Michigan University for granting a year off from teaching to pursue research. Many of the thoughts, however, began to develop in earlier papers and in my book Artworks: Definition, Meaning, Value (Pennsylvania State University Press, 1997). A shorter version of chapter 2 appeared as “Interpretation,” in the Routledge Companion to Aesthetics, edited by Berys Gaut and Dominic Lopez (Routledge, 2000), 229–51. |
