| Description: | The basic assumption advocated in this study is that the presence and the spatial clustering of burned flint items provide direct evidence for the use of fire. This assumption draws on a variety of ethnographic, archaeological, and ethnoarchaeological studies, which generally suggest that small burned items and their spatial arrangement are significant spatial indicators of the locations of ancient hearths. Using various procedures of spatial display and analysis, the distribution patterns of the burned and unburned flint items are examined to detect possible clusters of burned material.
