This volume had its genesis in the Seventh World Archaeological Congress (WAC), which was held in January 2013 at the Dead Sea, Jordan. The subject matter of this book was a major thread of this WAC meeting, which was among the very fi rst international conferences to tackle the issues arising from archaeology’s engagement with the forces of economic development. Across seven sessions of the Congress, more than 50 papers were presented that touched on the challenges and opportunities that arise through the interaction of archaeological and cultural heritage management practice with tourism, infrastructure and natural resource projects, economic development projects in cities and smaller communities, and similar activities around the globe.-
