Title: International Handbook of Historical Archaeology
Authors: Teresita, Majewski
David, Gaimster
Keywords: Historical Archaeology
Issue Date: 2009
Publisher: Springer
Description: The aim of the handbook, therefore, takes the now widely acknowledged definition of world historical archaeology as its main focus, as put forward by Charles E. Orser, Jr., in various publications (e.g., Orser, 2002). The papers collected here reveal current and diverse approaches to the archaeology of those societies developing in the wake of the European Middle Ages (where the Reformation, mercantile capitalism, and industrialization all ruptured the previous order of things) and of those emerging in regions of the world that were colonized by Europeans and that developed along a new multiethnic trajectory. This handbook is devoted therefore to the Postcolumbian or post-Quincentennial archaeology of Europe and the world, or should we say Europe in the world.
